I found this article on EzineArticles.com when looking for an idea for a post. This is the kind of thinking that got us where we are now. Too many people in the U.S.A. think the government owes them every thing. They want the government to pay them to do nothing, and now the government owes them health care. If we would eat right instead of eating fast food and frozen meals and all the other convient things it would change. How many of you are willing to change your diet to better your life. Will you stop depending on someone else to make your life decisions and stand on your own two feet? Why not take control of your healthcare yourself? Just a major change in your diet can do wonders. Doug is right here on a lot of it but the idea that the government running the healthcare is crazy. Just look around at the other government run programs and see how successful they are!

We Must Lose Weight En Masse in This Country
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Doug_Weightsman]Doug Weightsman
Have you ever wondered why some people are thin and other people are fat? If so, welcome to the club. I would venture to say that most people have thought about this at some point in their life. In fact, I would be willing to bet that on a subconscious level you probably think about this at least once a week. The reason you likely think about this as we all do is because the citizens of this country are getting fatter and fatter.
When I was young, it was really rare to see very fat people. Today, two thirds of the US population is either overweight or obese. Again, when I was young the people who were fat likely had some hereditary or hormonal reason for being overweight. Today, the majority of people who are overweight are that way because of lack of activity and poor dietary habits.
If we can ever get universal health care through the Congress and signed by President Obama, I believe we will have a chance at reversing the trend of obesity in this country. The reason for optimism is that we simply must get healthier as a country or else our health care system, already at the breaking point, will collapse. When all people have access to adequate health care they can be educated about proper diet and exercise in relation to resultant illnesses.
Simply by losing weight a person dramatically reduces their risk for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart attacks and other serious medical conditions. Losing weight is also not as hard to achieve as most people think. It is simply a matter of beginning some type of moderate exercise program like walking, hiking, swimming and changing a high calorie, high fat diet to one that is healthier.
Sure, it takes a little effort to begin a moderate exercise program and it does take some willpower to eat healthier foods instead of junk food, but the results are so worth it. The fact that young kids are becoming obese at such a young age tarnishes their outlook on their future because they have known no other way of being except obese.
I believe that if we have healthcare for everyone in this country doctors will have an incentive to prevent disease instead of simply trying to cure disease. We might also be able to have a presidential mandate such, as was the case with President Kennedy in the 60s with his Council on physical fitness. Obesity is a serious issue and unless this country begins to lose weight as a whole we are headed for profound economic consequences.
