People in at least two citys in Southern California are drinking recycled water. Los Angeles and San Diego are both reusing sewage for their domestic water systems. I am not sure I like the idea but it is happening and with some unknown results.
This water is probably clear of contaminants except some of the chemicals and by products from the chemical treatment. Chlorine is widely used to purify water in our municipal systems. The by products from the chlorine are called Trihalomethanes and are known to cause cancer.
Another problem I see is they are using reverse osmosis to help remove the contaminants. Reverse osmosis removes all the minerals from the water and this can cause us a real problem. You don’t see this in the news but a couple I met a few years ago the wife had gotten so she almost could not walk, was becoming a cripple. Doctors could not find the problem and she was ready to go into a wheel chair. Her husband is a plumber and they decided to get a drinking water filter and he said “lets get the best” so they got a reverse osmosis ‘RO’ system.
Finally as she was almost unable to get around without wheels the doctors found the problem. She was low on minerals in her body. The reverse osmosis water is like a leach trying to get it’s minerals back, so it not only doesn’t supply you with minerals it robs them from you.
I do not advise an RO system to anyone unless they have water with fluoride or some other problem that regular filtration won’t take out. We have an area in Idaho with the fluoride problem. It damages kids teeth and discolors them. There I recommend RO but also mineral supplements.
Back to Southern Ca, are you going to have this lack of minerals problem in your body from using this water? Time will tell but be very careful and don’t add to it by using an RO on your water. I would use a water filter though and as far as I am concerned the best is from a company that was founded in 1970 in your area by two brothers that saw the water purity problem a long time ago.
